Abstract

Objective: to describe the best teaching strategies for teaching evidence-based practice (EBP) for surgical residents. Methods: this is a scoping review, whose study design is to identify the best teaching strategies for teaching evidence-based practice (EBP) for surgical residents. To search and identify relevant studies, the descriptors indexed in MESH were used: “Surgery students”, “evidence-based practice”, “evidence-based medicine”, “Education”, and the Boolean operators AND and OR were applied, of restrictive and additive mode, in the following databases: Latin American and Caribbean Literature in Health Sciences (LILACS) and Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval Sistem online (Medline). Development: A total of 697 studies were identified. Of these, 16 were considered for inclusion. After reading the complete article, a total of 7 articles were selected (1 excluded for being written in Chinese and another 8 for citing a different theme or population than that proposed in this study). Many traditional components of surgical training continue to be applied today. Conclusion: Overall, this era of surgical education is characterized by rapid and dynamic changes in knowledge, understanding of surgical diseases, new procedures and technologies. New educational and training paradigms will be needed in the near future, facing the challenges of the 21st century and ensuring the production of professional, capable, competent and versatile surgeons.
