Abstract

The use of audiovisual resources in the academic sphere is an old practice, but it has gained notoriety in face of pedagogical trends in competence-based training. Cinema is increasingly consolidated as a tool for contemporary cartography that encourages reflection, debate and collaborative learning. In addition
to complementing under different perspectives usual themes in medical sciences, cinema also enables the expansion of learning to fields rarely explored in the formal medical curriculum, such as altruism, compassion and empathy. In this brief communication, we aim to draw a panoramic view of the applicability of this strategy in the medical course, looking at what our experience in this regard has revealed to us so far. From the horizontality in the curation of the films presented to the essential presence of expert preceptors guiding and adapting the discussions, it is clear that the students are engaged in the proposal, as well as our successful initiative to promote socialization, fruitive dialogues, exchanges of perceptions and consequent collaborative learning, valuable premises for a successful methodology based on building skills and competences based on technical excellence, ethics and humanistic conduct.
