Aquatic physiotherapy in the treatment of chronic low back pain
Abstract
Low back pain is a musculoskeletal disease that affects both genders, has no gender and age, and is one of the causes that most brings disability. The properties of water have beneficial therapeutic effects, causing analgesia, reducing pain and spasms. The objective of this study was to evaluate the aquatic physiotherapeutic effects as a treatment in individuals with chronic low back pain. A literature review was carried out through studies taken from the Scielo, Pubmed, PEDro, LILACS, Google Scholar and Cochrane databases. The data found were analyzed using criteria of date (2009 - 2019), relevance and methodological quality. After applying the inclusion and exclusion criteria, five articles were selected for full analysis. The results show that aquatic physiotherapy improves the pain, disability and quality of life of patients with chronic low back pain. However, the scarcity of research that addresses the subject generates the need for further research on the effectiveness of aquatic physiotherapy in the treatment of chronic low back pain to improve its understanding.
