Conceptions of interprofessionality in the multiprofessional health team in the tertiary service: an integrative review
Abstract
Introduction: The importance of teamwork and Interprofessional Education (IPE) is directly related to changes in the epidemiological and demographic profile of the population worldwide, mainly due to the increase in chronic diseases and life expectancy, thus requiring health professionals plus educational skills to intervene in various aspects according to users' health needs through an Interprofessional team. Objective: To identify the concepts and practices regarding interprofessional care developed by multidisciplinary teams in the hospital environment. Method: Integrative Review, based on the question: what are the concepts and practices regarding interprofessionality in the multidisciplinary team of the tertiary service? Complete original articles were included, available electronically in English, Portuguese and Spanish, in the period between 2016 and 2023. Excluded were: articles in other languages, indexed in repeated databases, that preceded the year 2016 and that did not address the hospital area. For the search strategy, the DeCS were used: interprofessional and hospital, interprofessional team and multidisciplinary team and multidisciplinary team and hospital, in the databases (LILACS), (MEDLINE/PubMed) and Cochrane Library and SciELO. After reading in full, 15 articles were selected. Results: The country and year with the highest number of publications was Brazil and the year 2023. Conclusion: It was evident that there is a gap between the theoretical concept and the practical application of multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary work in the hospital environment, highlighting the complexity inherent to this approach. Although theory promotes collaboration and communication among healthcare professionals, practical difficulties such as rigid hierarchies and communication barriers often hinder effective implementation. Recognizing the importance of these care models for the patient's health is crucial, as they can lead to more positive and integrated results, therefore, the need to work in training environments, including homes, is encouraged, the care practices within this perspective to promote the best possible care for patients.
