Study of the use of fluoxetine and sertraline employed In situations of weight loss: a literature review
Abstract
Objective: to describe the characteristics of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) involved in the weight loss process, highlighting the role of the pharmacist and self-medication. Methods: this is a bibliographic review of the narrative type, used by research in scientific articles from research platforms and books. The indexes searched were sciELO – Scientific Electronic Library Online, Google academic, Pubmed, Lilacs, Dynamed, books and leaflets. The keywords searched for were: fluoxetine for weight loss, fluoxetine for weight loss, fluoxetine and obesity, sertraline for weight loss, antidepressants obesity, sertraline and body weight, SSRI treatment for obesity, aesthetics with sertraline, sertraline for binge eating, consumption of SSRIs in weight loss, self-medication with anorectics; in addition to their respective words in English: fluoxetine in weight loss, Sertraline and Obesity and sertraline obesity treatment. Results: demonstrate intensity in the prescriptions of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, with their use also happening in people with normal body mass, in addition, self-medication by a part of this population was identified, in addition to abusive consumption. Conclusions: through several studies that SSRI's are used for weight control helping in eating disorders, in addition, the non-rational use of these drugs was evidenced, demonstrating an increasingly necessary pharmacist's role in these situations with other professionals in the field. health.
