Abstract

In March 2020, the World Health Organization (WHO) decreed a pandemic of the new coronavirus called SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19), so several activities were interrupted and the paralysis of face-to-face classes was one of the measures established. Emergency Remote Learning (ERE) established the teaching and learning connection without breaking the social distance. This paper aims to identify and describe the challenges of remote learning (e-learning) from the perspective of nursing students during the COVID-19 pandemic. Quantitative cross-sectional study following the web survey strategy, through the Google Forms platform in use of a multiple choice questionnaire and Likert scales, the survey data were exported and tabulated to the Microsoft Excel program, resulting in the production of the graphs and tables. The profile of the participants was mostly female, between 18 and 24 years old, brown. The difficulties encountered are linked to the handling of platforms, as well as the low quality internet. The main platforms were Zoom and Google Meet. About 31% of the students reported symptoms of mental health changes. Approximately 62% had worsening academic performance and 31% report not having enough theoretical background for face-to-face feedback. The abrupt change in the teaching-learning process in nursing students generated a mismatch in academic progression, and the support of the teaching intuition was essential, but there are still some challenges for the maintenance of the functional hybrid model modality in nursing courses.
